Lucus, founder of Squrl Labs

Lucus — Founder & CEO, Squrl Labs

Lucus builds and runs Squrl Labs largely by directing AI agents rather than writing every line or running every process by hand. Forage came first, out of the everyday frustration of re-explaining a codebase to an AI assistant every session — and building it raised an obvious follow-up question: if AI can carry that much of the engineering, how much of the rest of the business could it carry too?

That question is what this page is really about. Squrl Labs isn't just a company that ships AI tools — it's a running experiment in how far those tools can go when you point them at the company itself.

A company built to run on
99% AI.

Squrl Labs is deliberately run as a demonstration of what AI-run operations look like today — a real business, with real customers and real revenue, where AI agents do almost all of the actual work of building, selling, and supporting the product. It exists to show, honestly and in public, how far this has come — and what it takes for a business to grow without growing headcount for every new function.

🤖 The 99%
AI-run

Engineering, triage, code review passes, spec-writing, lead sourcing, outreach drafting, support replies, scheduling — all handled end-to-end by AI agents running inside Forage, Software Factory, and Sales Factory.

🧑 The 1%
Lucus

The irreversible and judgment-call decisions: what code actually ships, what a Software Factory pull request merges, what an outbound campaign sends, and anything that touches money, legal terms, or a customer relationship directly.

The AI teammates that run
the rest of the company.

🏭

Software Factory

Squrl Labs' engineering team. A self-hosted platform that watches issues on a repo, and drives each one through triage → spec → implementation → review using AI coding agents — the same pipeline that builds Forage itself.

  • Label-driven pipeline (sfactory:ready → creating-spec → implementing → reviewing → done)
  • Plugs into any LLM provider and any coding-agent CLI (Claude Code, Codex, Forage)
  • Kanban board + Slack-like chat to watch, pause, or redirect any run in progress
  • Supervised mode holds every stage boundary for Lucus's approval — Auto runs it unattended when trusted
📈

Sales Factory

Currently internal only. Squrl Labs' own sales and marketing team — a self-hosted AI orchestration platform that sources, nurtures, and closes leads, then hands off to post-sale support, with a human approving anything irreversible before it goes out. We're running it on ourselves first; once the automation pipelines are proven, it becomes a customer-facing product just like Software Factory.

  • Built-in CRM with automated lead-fit scoring
  • Configurable Outbound/Nurture, Content, and Post-Sale/Renewal pipelines
  • Sourcing via web search, Google Maps, and enrichment providers
  • Deterministic compliance gate (suppression, cadence caps, disclosures) reviews every send before it happens

Forage, Software Factory, and Sales Factory aren't just products Squrl Labs sells — they're the company's own engineering, product, and go-to-market teams. Every one of them is dogfooded here, every day.

Our story

Born from the frustration of repetitive context.

Every time you start a new AI coding session, you re-explain your codebase from scratch. File structures, naming conventions, architectural decisions — all of it re-fed, token by token, into a model with no memory.

We built Forage to solve that. A persistent knowledge graph that lives on your machine, understands your codebase deeply, and gives AI assistants the context they need without burning your token budget on boilerplate.

Squrl Labs was founded on the idea that the best developer tools are the ones that disappear — they just make you faster without getting in the way.

🐿️
Forage

Our flagship product. A local-first knowledge graph for software teams that makes AI coding assistants dramatically more efficient. Fully on-premise, MCP-compatible, zero telemetry.

🏢
Squrl Labs, LLC

A privately held company based in the United States. We are independent, self-funded, and focused entirely on building tools developers actually want to use.

What we believe

Principles we build by.

🔒

Local-first, always

Your source code is your most sensitive asset. It should never leave your machine — and every product we build supports self-hosted models, so your data never trains someone else's AI and your business isn't dependent on any single provider's pricing, terms, or continued existence.

Speed through context

The fastest AI is one that already knows what you're working on. We invest deeply in context quality so AI assistants spend tokens on work, not orientation.

🔧

Tools that get out of the way

Good tooling disappears. We obsess over setup time, configuration complexity, and day-to-day friction so you can focus on shipping.

📖

Transparent by default

We publish our security model, our data practices, and our licensing terms in plain language. No surprises.

🤝

Customer-driven development

We respond to every support request personally. The feedback we get from real users shapes every release.

🚀

Independence as a feature

We are self-funded and answer only to our customers. No investor mandates mean no pressure to monetize your data or bloat the product.
